A family estate of four generations, the “Clos de la Hurvanière” lies in the south of Pays d'Auge, in the vicinity of Lisieux.
In the past, milk production and cattle breeding were the main activities in the past. As in the majority of Normandy farms, cider and Calvados were produced for home consumption.
Pierre Groult (1830-1918), encouraged by winning the gold medal at the Lisieux agricultural show on 30 July 1893, decided to further develop the Calvados production.
His son, Leon Groult, succeeded him and founded his own cellar in 1900. |

Roger GROULT, Pierre's grandson, took over the business at a very young age. Thanks to the high quality of his father's and grand-father's Calvados, he won many gold medals and prizes of honour from 1934 to 1948.
In 1950 he enlarged the family distillery. In 1975 Roger GROULT and his children formed a company to enable further cellars to be built. Today, his son Jean-Pierre heads the family business.
The same methods of production have been maintained for four generations. The apples are selected from the family's own orchards and those in the immediate vicinity in order to conserve the vintage region.
